Burj Al Arab Self-Drive Boat

Please make sure to arrive early (15 minutes at the berth, 25 minutes at the harbour entrance) to complete the preparations. You will receive a life jacket and a safety briefing on how to operate the boat. Make sure to wear water-compatible clothing, as you are very likely to get splashed while driving. You will need to leave your shoes at the berth. Each boat has a small, protected compartment for mobile phones and valuables. However, we recommend avoiding valuables that could be damaged by vibration or water. If you have bags without valuables, you may leave them at the berth before departure, along with your shoes.

Minimum age to drive — The minimum age to drive the boat is 16. Guests aged 16 or 17 may drive only while a Costa Viva skipper is on board. From 18, guests may drive without a skipper on board. No boating licence is required in either case.

Children — Children under [10 / 12] years of age are not permitted on board. Every child on board must be accompanied by an adult, except for one child who may ride with the skipper.

Capacity and weight — Each boat carries a maximum of 2 people and a combined weight of 120 kg. Groups exceeding this limit must split across two boats, which requires an additional booking. Please check this before booking so we can prepare the right number of boats for you.

Identification — Photo ID showing date of birth is required at check-in for the person driving the boat, and for any guest whose age needs to be confirmed.

Alcohol and substances — Guests who appear to be under the influence of alcohol or other substances will not be permitted to board. The captain's decision is final. In such cases the booking is treated as a no-show and no refund will be issued.

Regrettably, our small boats are not wheelchair accessible. We will do our best to adjust the pace of the tour and activities according to our guests' abilities and comfort levels. Guests should be confident boarding the small boat and comfortable with the potential risk of falling into the water. Please contact us in advance and provide as much information as possible so we can arrange the most suitable tour for you.

No food or shoes are allowed on the boats. If necessary, please bring socks or other soft-soled footwear.
